The LASIK Procedure
Patient considerations
While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has determined that
LASIK is a safe and effective procedure, certain conditions or circumstances may mean that particular individuals are less than ideal candidates. These considerations include, but are not limited to age (LASIK may not be appropriate for children under 18); rapidly changing vision; autoimmune disorders; medications, including steroids, that may slow healing; cataracts and other eye diseases, eye injuries, a history of ocular herpes within one year of proposed surgery;
dry eyes, and other conditions.
