Alternative Vision Correction Options
Glasses: Eyeglasses or spectacles are a device for aiding and correcting defective sight. Eyeglasses usually consist of a pair of lenses mounted in a frame to hold them in position before the eyes.
Contact Lenses: Contact lenses thin plastic lens worn between the eye and eyelid that may be used instead of eyeglasses. Contact lenses may also be used to correct certain abnormalities of the eye that cannot be corrected by regular glasses.
PRK Photorefractive Keratectomy: (PRK) is a procedure involving the removal of the surface layer of the
cornea (epithelium) by gentle scraping. The precision and accuracy of the Excimer Laser is utilized to sculpt microscopic layers of tissue from the surface of the cornea, changing its shape and allowing light rays to focus more precisely on the
retina.
RK Radial keratotomy: (RK) is a surgical procedure designed to correct
myopia (nearsightedness) by flattening the cornea with incisions. The procedure is called a radial keratotomy because the incisions resemble the spokes in a wheel. RK is preformed less frequently since the introduction of the Excimer Laser.
